An overview of the HIV/AIDS epidemic

Acquired immune deficiency syndrome, AIDS, is one of the greatest threats to human health in the 21st century. According to the Joint United Nations Program on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) 2006 Report on the Global AIDS Epidemic:

  • Every day, over 7,500 people die from AIDS
  • Every hour, more than 300 people die from AIDS
  • Every minute, another 5 people die from AIDS
