Telling your coworkers

You may be close friends with some of the people you work with. You may be thinking of telling those people that you have HIV. But keep a few things in mind. People may not react the way you expect. If coworkers are told that you have HIV, it could affect the way they treat you. That’s why it is very important to carefully choose who you tell at work.

Tips for telling your coworkers

  • Make sure they know not to repeat what you told them
  • Be sure that they are trusted friends
  • Tell them why you want them to know
  • Keep it simple

Your local AIDS service organization (ASO) may be able to give you more information about sharing your HIV status at work.
