Telling your partner

Sharing your HIV status with your partner is the right and responsible thing to do. Keeping your status secret from your partner can put his or her health at risk. It also may keep your partner from getting needed treatment. In many couples today, one person is HIV+ and the other is not. They can still have sexual relations. They use safer sex methods, such as always using a condom. This greatly lowers the chance of spreading the virus.

Some states have a law that you must tell your spouse or partner that you are HIV+.
