Your metabolism (said: muh-TAB-ul-ism) is the process your body uses to get energy or make energy from the food you eat. Sometimes changes in your body stop this process from working the right way. Two things might happen. You might end up with too much of some things in your body. Or you might end up with too little of others. Either way, your health suffers.

You can get a metabolism problem (metabolic disorder) if an organ in your body (such as your liver or pancreas) is diseased or does not work well. These disorders can also be caused by HIV infection and HIV medicines. Some of these disorders are:
