Hepatitis C

What you should know about hepatitis C:

  • It spreads through sex or the use of IV street drugs
  • If you have symptoms, they can include:
    • Yellow-looking skin or eyes (jaundice)
    • Feeling sick to your stomach (nausea)
    • Throwing up (vomiting)
    • Having a fever
    • Not feeling hungry (loss of appetite)
  • Some people can often get over it on their own without treatment
  • Other people cannot get over it on their own. In that case, the infection is said to be chronic, which means it lasts a long time
  • Chronic hepatitis C is hard to treat. But there are medicines for it
  • Chronic hepatitis C is often worse in people with HIV
