Who can get HIV?

Anyone can get HIV. That includes:

  • Men, women, and children
  • Gay and straight people
  • People of all races

For every 10 people who were diagnosed with HIV/AIDS in 2005:

  • About 5 of them were African American
  • About 3 of them were White
  • About 2 of them were Hispanic

More and more women are being diagnosed with HIV/AIDS. This is especially true for women of color.
